Valdez or Hajnal? Who will replace Zidan?

Who will replace the injured Mohamed Zidan? This is the one of the key questions asked by Borussia Dortmund´s fans before the last three matches of the season against Nuremberg, Wolfsburg and Freiburg. BVB coach Jürgen Klopp has three options: "Tamas Hajnal, Nelson Valdez or someone very, very young."

The BVB coach can replace the injured Zidan with Nelson Valdez, who would play the role of a "deep lying" striker, but the successful 4-2-3-1 formation would then need to be changed to a 4-2-2. Or he could field Tamas Hajnal, who could fill the role left by Zidan without the need to change the system.

Who starts, who comes on? Tamas Hajnal and Nelson Valdez (right).

"After scoring five and setting up 11 goals in his first year with BVB as well as pulling the strings in midfield, he had been sidelined, after a mediocre start to the new campaign, with a torn ligament and a splintered bone injury since matchday eight and when he was fit again, the team had found its rhythm without him. Hajnal was left with the role of a super sub, with the exception of the 3-0 win over Leverkusen," said German football magazine kicker in Thursday´s issue.

"Now I have the chance to rectify a poor season," said Hajnal, who put in an excellent performance against Leverkusen as a stand-in for the then suspended Sahin. After coming on after only 20 minutes, the Hungarian also had a great game against Hoffenheim. He was involved in more than half of BVB´s 15 shots on goal and also set up Borussia´s goal, but he also gave the ball away before Hoffenheim snatched the equaliser.

"Tamas´ advantage is that he has a bit more rhythm," said Jürgen Klopp about the issue, "and Nelson´s advantage is that he can create space up front." Valdez applied for a place in the starting line-up with his goal against Hoffenheim, and Jürgen Klopp also acknowledged: "He played really well."

Hajnal or Valdez? "Both options could work," said the coach. "The decision hasn´t been made yet. I will take a very close look at the two remaining training sessions."
